Re: Cream versus the Doors!
Cream, by far. I'm a bass player, and Cream had one of the best. The Doors didn't even have one.
The Doors' music sounds really dated to me now. And Jim Morrison's lyrics could be problematic.

Re: Cream versus the Doors!
I would much rather listen to Cream, but the Doors have such a larger catalog that I went with them. When you add everything together its the Doors,,,,,I guess.

Re: Cream versus the Doors!
The Doors. No other band sounded like them back then or ever since.

"Dead president's corpse in the driver's car; the engine runs on glue and tar".
"There's a killer on the road. His brain is squirming like a toad".

Re: Cream versus the Doors!
Hmmmm. Sort of like black/death metal lyrics.
But then again when you listen to some old time classics such as Stagger Lee, Hey Joe and Tom Jones' Delilah let alone what you get from some rappers such as Public Enemy and NWA, well Jim Morrison's lyrics aren't too outrageous. ![]()

![]() Quote:
When Bill Wyman opted to retire from the Rolling Stones in December 1992, I thought that the only fitting replacement for Wyman would be another old Brit from the Stones' generation who'd also come up through the same blues clubs in the U.K. My first choice was Jack Bruce. Decades of substance abuse though had left Bruce with liver problems which eventually led to his death in October 2014. That's Bruce with the bottle below: ![]() My alternate suggestions were John McVie of Fleetwood Mac (which was not entirely a going concern at the time) or else John Paul Jones of Led Zeppelin fame. Or perhaps even Dick Taylor their first bass player from 1962 who went on to launch the Pretty Things? I thought another alternative was to bring on Jeff Beck as a lead guitarist and move Ron Wood back to bass with which he'd first made a name for himself with the Jeff Beck Group. By the early 1990's I think Jeff Beck might have acquired the maturity he needed to work with Mick Jagger and Keith Richards in a band context. By then it should have been apparent to Beck that he lacked the song writing and arrangement skills to really blossom as a solo artist. The Stones however saw no need to ask for my advice. Rather than adding someone fit to be a Rolling Stone and split the take with an additional band member, they opted to go cheap with a salaried sideman on the bass. ![]()

![]() While I really like the psychedelic blues rock sound that the Cream played, they just didn't release enough stellar tracks to fill more than one greatest hits LP. I'd be hard pressed though to limit my picks of Doors' releases to a three LP compilation. Even the double CD variant of The Very Best of the Doors album from 2007 isn't quite adequate for me:
![]() Therefore it's the Doors for me in this one. The Doors are in fact still my second favourite band. ![]()

Re: Cream versus the Doors!
I like and appreciate both bands but I went with The Doors because of larger catalog and when I am in mood for something eccentric, The Doors fill the bill for me.

Doors for me, even though I love Cream. They just have a better catalogue.
