Grace Slick on senior rockers
I love this woman and I'd like to know the opinions of fellow members here on ageism in rock music...

Re: Grace Slick on senior rockers
If the artist still lives the music, let 'em go on performing forever.
In her case, you can't sing about advocating the use of drugs and finding somebody to love as an octogenerian. It just doesn't sound right so she made the right decision for her. |

∆∆∆∆∆ I totally agree. In any case, Grace was in reality fed up with music, so in her later years, she indulged in her other artistic hobby which is painting portraits of famous musicians and various Alice in Wonderland characters.

Re: Grace Slick on senior rockers
I heard her make those comments about 'too old to rock after 50' years ago in an interview for one of the tv shows.
"the musician elaborated on her past remark and said one could make jazz, classical, blues, opera, or country music until they were 150 years old. However, according to the singer, rock and roll and rap are for young audiences who need to get their anger out, and it’s silly to perform a song that doesn’t express feelings the artists no longer have." I think she has a very good point about rock and roll being about anger and rebellion and for younger crowds but if others want to pay to see Jagger at 78 prance around or Pete Townsend and Daltrey sing 'hope I die before I get old'.....more power to them. ![]() I recently saw Plant (73) and Alison Kraus (50) perform and it seemed normal to me but they do a fusion of folk, country, and rock and it didn't seem odd. So for me the type of music probably does matter but again if someone wants to see an 80 yr old rocker..so be it. |

Re: Grace Slick on senior rockers
∆∆ Yeah, reminds me of Ian Anderson's "....too young to die, too old to r n r ...."
Or Lemmy: "if you think you're too old to r n r, then you probably are". |
