Let's talk Electric Light Orchestra

I'm planning to spin my ELO albums chronologically backwards ( ) and so far I'm at Secret Messages.

This 'video' to that song would be a fitting intro to this thread as well as it's a rundown of all of the ELO albums... the music is Four Little Diamonds off Secret Messages:

What's your fave album - what's your fave songs, let's hear it!

And yes, maybe a bit of Groucutt talk would be well in order as well...

Re: Let's talk Electric Light Orchestra

Hiya Flipflop - As you can tell I am a longtime ELO fan. I got hooked on Xanadu and then bought all the albums and listened to them in forward chronological order. I can't really say that I have a favorite but I agree that Time is right up there.

Four Little Diamonds represents the side of ELO that I like best. I hope you have a wonderful trip!!

Re: Let's talk Electric Light Orchestra

I've just discovered them recently. I only own "ElDorado" but I think it's one of the best albums I've heard.
My favourite song from that record is the title track, which doesn't appear at my parents ELO compilations but I think it's incredible. I love the way Jeff Lynne sings in it.

Thanks Annie and you know what - somehow I just know it'll be a fun ride

Spinning Time right now and yes, it's my fave as well - one of the albums I really, really, really grew up on and still listen to regularly. I was into Xanadu a lot too and it'll be up next

Re: Let's talk Electric Light Orchestra

Time is a really good album. Lyrically, it's quite amusing, and musically, it's solid early 80s rock.

As for my personal fave ELO album, I can never decide between A New World's Record and Out of the Blue. It's one of them, but I don't know which...

Oh yes, absolutely! And let's not forget that the book '1984' was pretty hot around this time as well which also meant that we all thought of how crazy it would be when we hit 1984... and Prince's 1999, not least - and that's 10 years ago now

Something about years and numbers in songs that's bound to freak us out eventually :)

Re: Let's talk Electric Light Orchestra

Great band right up until Face The Music. Then they turned into a pop machine who churned out a lot of commercial drivel, IMHO.

Right. That is the first song ever to give me goosebumps. Jeff's voice is over the moon!
