Re: Let's talk Electric Light Orchestra
I love ELO, they've always done it for me, and I believe Olé ELO was one of the first 10 records I ever bought, and I played it to death. The long version of Kuiama (with the insane violin solo -- one of my favorite non-guitar solos of all time) is a favorite track -- not just for the solo, mind you, I love its patient almost post-rock nature -- and Face the Music, A New World Record and Out of the Blue are of course favourites.
I also intend to cover "Don't Bring Me Down" at some point in my life.

Re: Let's talk Electric Light Orchestra
Wow ... I need to go listen to some ELO again ... soon!
A New World Record is among the first record albums I ever bought - this at the time it was a new album! I was playing cello in the jr. high school orchestra and I found out ELO had two cellos and I thought it was really cool a rock band had two cellos and I just had to check them out! I remember playing the heck out of Out Of The Blue as well. I enjoy their much older albums too. Oh, and I did get the box set on CD. I did find a nice copy of Time at the local thrift shop not too long ago ... another one I still haven't gotten around to playing. Maybe I need to flag that one! |

Re: Let's talk Electric Light Orchestra
As you're going back, don't stop at ELO's debut...try The Move's Message to the Country (sometimes packaged as Split Ends) and Idle Race (Jeff's group before joining The Move) while you're at it. "Do" listen to the original version of Do Ya.

Re: Let's talk Electric Light Orchestra
My favorite ELO album is A New World Record and it contains one of my most favorite songs of all time, Shangri-La. It's just a haunting piece of music and has one of the greatest fade-outs ever recorded.

Re: Let's talk Electric Light Orchestra
I've been a huge fan since the album, "On The Third Day". I can't add much to what's already been said about this fabulous artist. "Time" is easily my favorite album and one of the greatest concept albums ever. Outside of the first two albums which don't really grab me at all, ELO blessed my music listening life with thrilling sounds that I'll enjoy forever.

Re: Let's talk Electric Light Orchestra
Saw them twice, both on their home turf of Brum, Night Of Fear by The Move most likely got the ball rolling.. and I Can Hear The Grass Grow was the first record played on Radio One.
I bought this in late 1974- up until 1977 I really rated them, but I lost interest by Discoveries and bought them as OCD.. |

Re: Let's talk Electric Light Orchestra
I have the first 4 lp's and of course the Move lps. Saw ELO in Chicago once in 1974. Haven't played them in a long time.

Re: Let's talk Electric Light Orchestra
I prefer their later stuff (like this album) than their late 70s commercial ones
