Re: Obscure Music: Rock, Jazz, etc

I've always rated this man's delivery and his life and emotions spill over... and why not- during WW2 he was a brave Resistance fighter against Nazism and the Vichy traitors... his albums make for great listening.

Charles Aznavour - Lá Boheme.

Discovered this singer in a Smokey bar in Rotterdam and he clicked, sadly passed in 2018...real hidden gem of a performer... at least outside of France.

Jacques Higelin - Cigarette.

One of the few albums I sold.... well I swapped it for a WW2 Irvin jacket... seems now it's worth a few bucks..[the jacket died after years on construction sites]

Graham Bond - My Archangel.

Decent lp....his late 60's ear;ly 70's lps are interesting.
I saw that in a used prog bin a few years back in Indianapolis but they were asking more that I wanted to pay. Should have gone for it..haven't seen it any where since.

I think Bill Nelsons work has largely been ignored.. save for a TV ad burger chain or Ed Sheeren sampling a tune.. I can't see that changing... but knowing him... I'd say he revels in obscurity.
Revolt Into Style was the last single I recall purchasing on the old Harvest label... Anyhoo -

Bill Nelson - Do You Dream In Colour?

From Quit Dreaming and Get On The Beam lp of 1981.
I have several of his early electronic ambient things the ones with the black and white covers....Summer of Gods Piano and the next 3 and a few others also...perhaps my favorite is Chance Encounters in the Garden of Lights. He has a huge catalog of albums...and of course all the Be Bop stuff is excellent.

Re: Obscure Music: Rock, Jazz, etc

The rock group Stone Fury released 2 albums in the mid-80's. Their lead singer then went on to form the much more popular group, "Kingdom Come".

This is probably my favorite song by Stone Fury.

This band was the kind that had it record store discs in the basement.... (which I always liked) the pap was always by the door. I think Portishead snatched a piece of this song- Third Stone From The Sun is a game - Changer by these.

Weather Report - Elegant People.

Sadly... not the case here- you had to hunt for their back catalogue and the store assistant would vaguely point and mumble "modern jazz"?

Re: Obscure Music: Rock, Jazz, etc

@dr wu, yes a fine piece of music.... been playing it whilst browsing on here!
I only own one album of these, but it's moody and different - Tommy Eyre was on vocals and worked.. I believe with Juicy Luicy and many others including Joe Cocker and working on Baker Street with Gerry Rafferty.
A seven piece band that I've never heard on the mainstream.

Riff Raff - You World.

Another singer who went solo from the original Ultravox before Midge Ure.

That's nice prog....never heard of them....here's their Prog Archives page https://www.progarchives.com/artist.asp?id=2072
their second lp has higher ratings. I 'll have to listen to both ....

(They have another earlier one from 1971 that was not released until 1999)
Apparently Eyre and Sutton also did work with the Mark-Almond band for a while in that early 70's period.

Re: Obscure Music: Rock, Jazz, etc

Thanks dr wu, interesting to see the DNA of this band.. this site makes me delve into some stuff I rarely play. Probably like many on here, I get bored of my collection and always want something different.... that elusive album or song I've spent my life searching for- only I don't know what it is!
... And life gets in the way-unless I'm in the workshop or garage.... or the old lady is at the mall, that's the only time or place in the day I get to hear vinyl. Mainly it's CD's in the car... but I have a turntable /briefcase player which is handy when in DIY mode.
