Chicago Jumps Way Ahead in Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Fan Vote

It the fans had their way, they would still induct Chicago, the Cars, Yes, Steve Miller and Deep Purple to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame but what used to be less than 1% separating the five front runners is now a flat out runaway for Chicago.

The current vote:

•Chicago - 23.52% (37364484 votes)
•The Cars - 16.19% (25724029 votes)
•Yes - 16.17% (25692136 votes)
•Steve Miller - 15.97% (25373371 votes)
•Deep Purple - 15.95% (25338263 votes)
•Janet Jackson - 5.91% (9389838 votes)
•Cheap Trick - 1.29% (2041761 votes)
•The Spinners - 1.25% (1992688 votes)
•Chaka Khan - 1.14% (1806633 votes)
•Chic - 0.83% (1311302 votes)
•The J.B.'s - 0.58% (925427 votes)
•N.W.A - 0.39% (626289 votes)
•Nine Inch Nails - 0.31% (489181 votes)
•The Smiths - 0.27% (431746 votes)
•Los Lobos - 0.23% (360381 votes)

I don't think my #5 choice (The Smiths) are going to make in in this year . Would be happy to see Chicago get in.

Still no Electric Light Orchestra even after all their publicity this past year, Jeff Lynne's ELO Live at Hyde Park in London, The GRAMMY performance had Paul McCartney, Taylor Swift, The HAIM Sisters, Beyoncé and Keith Urban cheering ELO on, Jeff Lynne gets his Hollywood Walk of Fame Star, New Global Deal with longtime label Columbia Records, then the announcement of ELO's first album since 2001 coming up November 13th, 2015!

That said, I'd vote for...

Chicago
The Spinners
The Cars
Steve Miller Band
Cheap Trick

I don't get it either. It makes no sense. They should have been in the Hall Of Fame at least a decade ago. Paul McCartney doesn't have Jeff Lynne work with him on albums because he needs the money. Paul recognizes greatness.

Jann Wenner, who was made a member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Foundation in 1983, has endured controversy during his career as it relates to his involvement in the organization. Fans and supporters of several artists have placed a large amount of blame on Wenner for keeping them out of the Hall of Fame. They claim Wenner has lobbied to keep them from consideration and nomination to the Hall based on personal bias and a dislike for their music.
I guess Jann Wenner hates ELO and The Moody Blues.

Re: Chicago, Yes, The Cars, Deep Purple, Steve Miller Leading Rock Hall Fan Vote;

The Cars
Cheap Trick
Yes
Deep Purple
The Smiths

I love the Cars, Cheap Trick and The Smiths. I like a few tunes from both Purple and Yes, but wouldn't call myself a big fan of either, but I think they are deserving of the honor, so I voted for them. Could have also voted for the J.B.'s, The Spinners and Steve Miller, but not when limited to 5 picks. I have no use for Janet Jackson and Chakha Khan.

I'll be in the minority here, and I'm fine with that, but considering the fact that precedent has been set with rap acts being in the HoF, I'd be fine with NWA making it in, I just think it's too soon at this point. If you are allowing rap into the HoF, then NWA deserves to be there. I do think that hip hop/rap should have and even DESERVES it's own HoF, but we are past that at this point.

I think Chicago was great early on, but I have a hard time voting for them due to their horrendous 80's garbage.

Overall, the nominees this year are very solid minus a couple of esceptions. I 100% agree that ELO deserves to be in. It's shocking that they haven't even been nominated.

If only Jeff would realize he is cooler without this capitalist honor.

No love for Los Lobos?

Here's a band that's been around for a long time, put out a slew of critically acclaimed albums, never faltered and are as good or better than they were 30 years ago.

Quote:
Artists become eligible for induction 25 years after the release of their first record. Criteria include the influence and significance of the artists’ contributions to the development and perpetuation of rock and roll.

The Foundation's nominating committee selects nominees each year in the Performer category. Ballots are then sent to an international voting body of more than 600 artists, historians and members of the music industry. Those performers who receive the highest number of votes are inducted. The Foundation generally inducts five to seven performers each year.

Beginning in 2012, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame opened Nominee voting to fans around the world. The Top Five Nominees as voted by the fans count for one ballot entry, which is weighted the same as individual ballot entries submitted by members of the international voting body.
Induction process according to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
