Should Pearl Jam break up?

I realize that some of this has been discussed in other threads, but i felt it could use a thread of its own.

I would say most definitely NO. People tend to dismiss newer Pearl Jam because i doesnt get on the radio as much, and they basically just play stuff from the first three albums. The reason its not on the radio is that the sound of newer Pearl Jam doesnt fit into modern rock radios narrowminded agenda. Pearl Jam has developed an indie sensibility, and often their recent works have a more personal and progressive sound to them. Modern Rock radio station are still looking for any third rate grunge copycat.
No Code and Yield are brilliant albums from beginning to end, and they work well as a whole. Binaural and Riot Act have some great moments (Light Years, Save You, You Are).
Their live show also sill kicks ass. I saw them in Vancouver in 2003, and they did two encores and and just wouldnt stop playing as they were having so much fun up there, and i think also because they always try to give you the most for your money. Must have been around a 25 song set.

Anyway, thats my piece.

Re: Should Pearl Jam break up?

I would see no reason for them to break up. They are still making good music. I believe they are working on their next album. It's funny how alot of people condemn them as a 'one album band' and then go on other threads talking about how they love obscure cuts so much. Ten was really the only album of theirs IMO where they released the material to a popular audience. Ever since then they have done more of what they wanted to do musically, and put out better material as a result.

PJ is one of my all time fav's and part of the reason is because they put on an excellent live show and have tremendous performing chemistry. They are as real a rocknroll band you could possibly get today.

Re: Should Pearl Jam break up?

^ i agree

the reason i asked was because they held this poll on Torontos modern rock station the Edge recently. The DJ was saying that the reason they dont play any Pearl Jam from the last few albums is because the newer stuff sucks. That infuriated me, and that along with other reasons, prompted me to switch radio stations for good. Thats not the reason they dont play new Pearl Jam as Ive already mentioned. And for most people that bought the newer albums, they woud agree that Pearl Jam is still created great music.

Re: Should Pearl Jam break up?

Hell no.

No one I talk to that are fans and have followed them closely since the beginning feel they have been making anything other that great music. We equate too much these days to commercial success and those who feel they should break up either thought they sucked from day one, never liked anything after Ten (which usually means they stopped listening), or feel they don't count because they aren't selling millions of records anymore.

For those that hate them, bugger off and listen to something else. And screw the DJ's, their going to be out of a job in a few years anyways once sattelite radio takes off. I really have high hopes for it as a medium.

As long as they keep making music I love I hope they will stay together. Long live Pearl Jam!

Yeah, maybe Matchbox 20 will break up then. They've polluted the airwaves long enough.

Plus they release a ton of great live albums... they're like unique greatest hits packages, each one of 'em.
