Albums That You Shelved After One Listen

I think its happened to all of us. We've bought an album that we may or may not have had high expectations for and we only listened to it once or part way before it went on the shelf, never to be heard from again.

I remember enjoying White Snake's single, "Here I Go Again" so much that I bought the greatest hits. I tossed, "Here I Go Again", on my ipod and haven't touched the cd since. There were a few other good songs but nothing that stood out for me.

Also, I have rarely played Talking Head's, "Remain In The Light". I like, "Once In A Lifetime" but the rest is to weird for my taste.

ZZ Top - Fandango

I like a lot of their albums but never cared much for that one. The only song off that album on my ipod is "Tush".

U2 - How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb (the thread title pretty much describes my experience, but I should try listening some more)

Maroon 5--Songs About Jane. It made nice background music when I heard on the house system at a coffee house I frequent, but once I got it home and listened in depth, I couldn't help but wonder what they'd slipped into my mocha...

I really should trade it.

McCartney 2 - 'Waterfalls' is the only decent song on it.

Yeah, I do that a lot. Because I'll be willing to check out anything when I'm desperate for a new sound, but it often doesn't pan out well. One good example would be Shakira's Fijacion Oral.

But the good news is that they can become relevant to me later on. For example I hated Ride The Lightning when I bought it but then 2 years later when I got into metalit became one of my favorite albums!

Re: Albums That You Shelved After One Listen

I bought Twisted Sister's Eat Em & Smile when it first came out. I enjoyed We're Not Gonna Take It and I Wanna Rock but I just could'nt get into the rest of the album. I ended up giving it away to someone after one listen.

Enya - The Memory Of Trees. I still have the cd. I bought it mostly because of Anywhere Is. I don't care that much for the rest of the album.

Re: Albums That You Shelved After One Listen

With all the online sampling available nowadays, this hardly happens anymore for me....

But, in the 90's, before I had a computer, I got burnt by a lot of 90's bands. Blind Melon was one of those bands.

Also, back in the days of vinyl, I guess it happened, but I can't remember, because obviously the albums were forgettable....

but, I'm sure there were some.

Tales from Topographic Oceans (Yes) - Four sides of some of the most boring noise I had ever heard (and this comes from a rabid Yes fan). What makes this slop so disastrous is that it came on the heels of (and still today) a legendary prog release "Close to the Edge".

Arcade Fire - Neon Bible

Seeing a pattern here?

FAR too many to list
I’m an impulsive CD buyer I would say that at least half of my collection have had no more than a couple of listens and a fair few no more than one listen

Re: Albums That You Shelved After One Listen

Deja Vu (All Over Again) by John Fogerty comes to mind. After putting out such an outstanding effort as Blue Moon Swamp several years earlier, I truly thought this album was going to be great. I was wrong. It IMO is a very boring and pedestrian affair with no memorable songs on it.

Re: Albums That You Shelved After One Listen

There are dozens of them. Whitford/St.Holmes comes to mind. Yes's Tormato. Only Vinyl though. If a CD sucks it goes right to the used CD shop or on my La La to trade list.

awww mannnnnnnnnnnnnn.

that's my third favorite U2 album.

for me, the discard pile contains zillions and zillions.

but i do remember when i first heard love beach... i was soo hoping the cover was some kind of sick, ironic joke, and the album would be filled with all sorts of karn evility and geiger skulls.

silly moi.
